The company, Capsis Hotels & Resorts, during the winter 2006-7, changed its Crete property from a resort convention hotel to an exclusive and VIP Resort complex and re-opened its doors in May 2007. The up-to-now known as Capsis Beach Hotel & Sofitel Capsis Palace Hotel & Convention Centre, in Aghia Pelaghia, 20 minutes from Heraklion City and International Airport, is now called THE CAPSIS RESORT CRETE! This name is the new name used by the property until the hotel reached its full and total re-branding which will be announced by the end of summer 2007. The reason of this major change in the hotel concept and the reconstruction of the property took place in order for the Head Company, Capsis Hotels & Resorts, to introduce to the world a new type of upscale & VIP holiday destination in Greece, different from anything else the country has to offer. The reconstruction project was completed in a record-period of six months, costing a total of 25 million euros.
